Three Important Factors That Affect Facial Flushing: #1 Exercise
March 01, 2013

Have you ever noticed that the amount of exercise you are getting influences the intensity of flushing you experience when drinking?

Facial flushing when drinking, and the negative physical and emotional feelings that go with it, can be affected by many things throughout the day. Those who flush know that after drinking enough, they will flush no matter what they do to try to prevent facial flushing. However, there are a few things that can decrease the intensity of flushing by supporting alcohol metabolism. In this three part series, we will discuss what these factors are and why they are important.

#1 – Exercise

Have you ever noticed that the amount of exercise you are getting in a given day influences the intensity of flushing you experience when drinking? This may also affect the intensity of hangover symptoms for any drinker. The more you exercise in a given day, the less you will flush and the more efficiently you will break down ethanol.

As you may know, the alcohol flush reaction is caused by a genetic mutation which leads to a deficient enzyme, acetaldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2). This mutation is primarily found in individuals of East Asian descent, giving rise to the nickname “Asian Glow” or “Asian Flush.” The mutation causes the enzyme to bind to what is called an enzyme “cofactor” much less efficiently, causing it to function at a very low level. This results in a build-up of the damaging compound acetaldehyde, resulting in facial flushing, inflammation, hangover, and general discomfort.

This “cofactor” fluctuates based on how much energy your body has. The less energy (which may be affected by exercise) your body has, the higher availability of this necessary cofactor, and the better the alcohol metabolism. One of the ways NoGlo works is that it greatly increases the availability of this cofactor for ALDH2 to function at a higher level, clearing the damaging compound acetaldehyde at a higher rate.

Next time you drink, think about how much exercise you have gotten and see how this influences your flushing as well as how you physically feel during and after drinking. NoGlo can increase healthy alcohol metabolism and reduce facial flushing, simulating this exercise effect.
