Three Important Factors That Affect Facial Flushing: #2 Food & Diet
March 07, 2013

Ideally, about an hour before drinking, consume a low calorie, yet high fiber, high protein and high nutrition meal. Vegetables are perfect. This way, calories remain low while nutrition is high and you aren’t drinking on an empty stomach.

As we discussed in our previous post about exercise and energy being a factor that can reduce alcohol-related facial flushing, there is another factor that has an effect on “Asian glow” or “Asian blush.”

#2 – Food and Diet

What have you eaten before drinking?

Similar to the exercise effect, food influences how intense your flushing may be. Here there is a trade-off. As discussed before, how much energy your body has will affect flushing. The more calories you eat, the more you will flush. However, if drinking on an empty stomach (NOT recommended) alcohol will enter your blood stream more quickly and the damaging metabolite, acetaldehyde, will accumulate much faster.

Ideally, about an hour before drinking, consume a low calorie, yet high fiber, high protein and high nutrition meal. Vegetables are perfect. This way, calories remain low while nutrition is high and you aren’t drinking on an empty stomach.

As with many things, healthy alcohol consumption is influenced by many factors. NoGlo helps to simulate a lower calorie environment to improve alcohol consumption by increasing the “cofactor” which is present in higher amounts when body energy is lower. Next time you drink, think about what you have eaten and how it has affected both your flushing and the way you feel. NoGlo wants to promote a healthier lifestyle for people who drink.
